Welcome to Olive Tree Faith’s Friday Finds – Olive Tree Pickings! Just like olives are often harvested with special combs, I’ve combed the web to find useful or inspiring material about this week’s topic, Sheep and Shepherds. I hope you enjoy them!
From amusing to informative and from scholarly to timeless, we’ve got some good pickings this week!
This week’s 6 pickings:
1. Sometimes we need new creative ways to help us understand and share the good news.
This brief video on The Gospel of Luke (chapters 9-19) from The Bible Project, is an excellent example, where visual storytelling meets the Bible. Informative yet simple enough even for children, and a great way to share our faith with others!
2. No one likes to be told they’re Dumb.
But we people truly are as Dumb as Sheep sometimes! OK, perhaps we wouldn’t follow a leader off a cliff, like the 400 sheep in this post by Tim Challies, but we often make poor choices in our daily lives, don’t we? Choices which prove we need the guidance of a good shepherd!
3. But who, on the otherhand, doesn’t want to be strong?
This creatively written post shows another aspect of sheep, because some Sheep are Tough, by Ryan Callahan. And through Christ, be can become tough and survive and flourish like them!
4. But perhaps you’ve been feeling dumb about theology?
Then this audio/video, God’s Provision and Protection (on Psalm 23), is for you! If you’ve always wanted to study Bible and theology, here’s your chance. It’s part of BibleTraining.Org’s online certified Biblical and theology courses, free to all!
5. Or you could simply Learn more about shepherds…
With this resource, How People Made a Living in the Time of Jesus from American Bible Society Resources. Learn all about Biblical employment, or scroll through their large assortment of resource articles.
6. And finally, a timeless classic on sheep.
No list on Sheep and Shepherds would be complete without the timeless and masterfully written, A Shepherd Looks at Psalm 23 by Tim Keller. If you’ve never read it, I encourage you to do so! You’ll be amazed at how much dumb sheep have to teach us!!
I hope you’ve have a good week, and that these pickings will give you something to munch on over the weekend. But remember to find time for friends, loved ones, and the Lord too!
Please note that, as I do not personally know the people or organizations spotlighted, my presentation of their resources does not necessarily mean I endorse them or their teaching.
